About the Oakland Community Preparedness & Response Program
In light of wildfire and earthquake disaster threats to our City, the Oakland Firesafe Council developed the Oakland Community Preparedness and Response (OCP&R) program. OCP&R provides awareness, educational workshops, detailed Guides and support for residents of the City of Oakland to help increase the overall community preparedness level and to improve disaster response capabilities.
The Oakland Community Preparedness & Response program is funded by grants from CAL FIRE and the California Fire Foundation. OCP&R’s goals are to increase the number of well-organized and active neighborhoods, communicate emergency notification and evacuation procedures, provide PG&E power shutoff preparedness tips, promote hardening of residences and communities against wildfire and earthquake, and help ensure a safer recovery from a disaster, among other efforts.
Oakland Community Preparedness & Response hinges on community involvement. OCP&R team members have worked closely with Oakland’s Neighborhood Crime Prevention Councils, Neighborhood Associations and organized neighborhood groups as well as City and County Fire, Police and Emergency Management Services agencies in building the program.
